Take steps to protect your teeth

Daily Brushing Habits

•Help your child brush twice a day, morning and night, with a soft, small‑headed toothbrush.
•Use just a smear or pea‑sized amount of fluoride toothpaste (depending on age) and show them gentle circular movements, especially near the gumline.
•Supervise brushing till at least 7–8 years of age so they don’t rush, swallow paste, or miss back teeth.

Smart Food and Drink Choices

• Limit chocolates, sticky sweets, biscuits, and sugary drinks to occasional treats, preferably with meals, not as all‑day snacks.
•Offer more tooth‑friendly snacks like fruits, vegetables, cheese, curd, and nuts instead of packaged junk food.
•Encourage children to sip plain water after eating, especially after sweets, to wash away food particles and reduce acid attack on teeth.

Protecting Teeth with Fluoride and Sealants

• Ask your dentist whether your child needs extra fluoride (gels, varnish) to make milk teeth stronger and more resistant to cavities.
•For back baby teeth with deep grooves, your dentist may suggest pit‑and‑fissure sealants, which act like a protective shield against food getting stuck.
•These preventive treatments are quick, painless, and can reduce the chance of toothache later.

Cleaning Between Teeth and Around Gums

• Once two teeth are touching, start cleaning between them with child‑friendly floss or floss sticks.
•Gently slide the floss between teeth and curve it along each side, so food and plaque don’t sit there and cause pain or bleeding gums.
•If gums bleed at first, continue gentle cleaning; if bleeding continues or there is swelling, get them checked by a dentist.

Regular Dental Check‑ups

01.

• Take your child for a dental check‑up every 6 months, even if there is no pain, so small problems are caught early.

02.

• The dentist can spot early cavities in milk teeth and treat them before they become deep and painful.

03.

• Routine professional cleaning removes tartar that brushing at home cannot remove, which helps prevent gum infections and sensitivity.
